Disclaimer: this game contains rapidly changing, pixelated images.

These games use random-dot autostereograms to produce a 3D visual effect. The effect can be turned off from the system menu so that the objects are easily visible. Read more about autostereograms.

Autostereocade includes three small games:

  1. Pixel Paddle
    1. A standard table-tennis-like game
    2. Use the D-pad's vertical buttons or the crank to move the left paddle
  2. Falling Stars
    1. Catch stars falling from the top of the screen before they hit the bottom
    2. Use the D-pad's horizontal buttons or the crank to move the bucket
  3. Target Dash
    1. Dash to the target before it disappears
    2. Use the accelerometer to move the disc
    3. Holding the Playdate perfectly flat with the back towards the ground will make the disc hold still

There is also a teaser animation for a platformer.

Did I interpret the premise of the game wrong? The game starts with showing a autostereogram but after 3 seconds it goes to the game select screen and the games take place in front of a white screen, with no autostereogram in sight.

I thought the games would take place in front of the autostereograms.

During gameplay, each frame is shown as an autostereogram. For example, if you look at this project's cover image (a Pixel Paddle autostereogram frame), you'll see two paddles and a ball. There's a white background when the "Reduce Flashing" accessibility setting is on and when the "in stereo" in-game setting is off. To view the games as autostereograms, turn the "Reduce Flashing" accessibility setting off and the "in stereo" in-game setting on.

I see, super important to turn off Reduce Flashing in the playdate system settings, that wasn't clear to me before. Thanks.

I love stereograms!  I don't know that I'm "good enough" at seeing stereograms to play a game with them, but willing to give it a try!  Thank you for making this!

Thanks for giving it a try! It was so cool when I realized this was possible. To make it easier, you can check the "helpers" option in the menu. Once you've got the two squares lined up, then you've got the right focus.
